Injury Treatment & Rehabilitation

Manual Therapy

Our advanced manual therapy services at Back In The Game Athletic Training deliver clinical interventions specifically for the physically active population and competitive athletes. We utilize hands-on techniques designed to accelerate physiological tissue repair, optimize biomechanical efficiency, and restore peak athletic performance. By addressing musculoskeletal dysfunction at its source, these clinical treatments facilitate rapid recovery and lower the risk of recurrent injuries and chronic pain.

Examples of the manual therapy techniques we often use are:

Dry Needling: Insertion of thin solid filament needles into muscular trigger points to relieve pain and improve mobility. Often this treatment can instantly release tight muscles and improve joint range of motion.

IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization): This is a specialized technique that uses ergonomic, hard-edged tools to treat muscle, tendon, ligament, and fascia injuries. Often referred to as "scraping," this non-invasive manual therapy method acts as an extension of a clinician's hands. It allows the athletic trainer to target deep tissue restrictions with precision.

Cupping: This involves the use of hard plastic or silicone cups applied to the skin which creates a vacuum suction. At Back In The Game, all types of cupping we utilize are done “dry”. There is no piercing of the skin known as “wet cupping” or any lighting of a match under the cup known as “fire cupping”.

Joint Mobilization: A technique where an athletic trainer will use their hands to apply precise, graded passive movements to mechanically restricted joints to restore normal accessory motion and decrease stress on the joint’s connective tissues. It is designed to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and restore natural joint movement (joint play) that has been limited by injury, surgery, or arthritis.

Trigger point release: This technique targets hyperirritable spots (muscle knots) within a taut band of muscle. Athletic Trainers apply firm, sustained pressure to the nodule to relieve localized muscle pain, stop referred pain, restore blood flow, and lengthen the muscle fibers. This pressure results in elimination of the binding of muscle and connective tissue that impairs movement and athletic power.

You may need help to continue to be ready to take on the demands of your everyday grind, whatever it may be!

Injury Profiles Treated

Acute Trauma: High-grade ligament sprains, muscle tears, and acute tendon strains.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation: Advanced return-to-play protocols for surgical conditions such as ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, labral repairs, fracture fixations and joint arthroscopies.

Chronic Overuse Pathologies: Tendinopathies, mechanical joint instability, and performance-limiting movement dysfunctions.

Maintenance: Any situation where an athlete or physically active patient needs to undergo some level of routine treatment due to the ongoing demands of their job, sport, physical activity or some combination thereof. Life is busy for all of us, and sometimes you just need a “tune up” to get “Back In The Game” or stay in the game of life!

Clinical Injury Rehabilitation

Our clinical injury rehabilitation services provide structured, objective-driven orthopedic care designed for athletes and physically active individuals recovering from acute trauma, chronic overuse, or surgical interventions. We utilize a strict sports-medicine framework that transitions patients from initial tissue protection to full functional capacity. By combining targeted therapeutic exercise with active multi-planar loading, our athletic trainers restore structural integrity, correct compensatory movement patterns, and re-establish biomechanical efficiency.

Core Rehabilitation Pillars

Therapeutic Exercise Prescription: Exacting clinical dosage of mechanical load, volume, and frequency designed to stimulate tissue hypertrophy, increase tendon stiffness, and restore muscular power.

Manual Resistance Training: Our athletic trainers will use hands-on PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) methods and concentric/eccentric loading to precisely isolate weakness, retrain motor control, and provide variable resistance through specific ranges of motion.

Functional Movement Re-education: Multi-joint kinetic chain training to eliminate biomechanical compensations, optimize movement economy, and restore foundational joint proprioception.

Sport-Specific Conditioning: High-velocity, energy-system-specific drills tailored to replicate the exact force generation, deceleration, and cutting demands of the athlete's primary sport.

You may need help to continue to be ready to take on the demands of your everyday grind, whatever it may be!

Strength And Conditioning

Our Foundation: Structured Preparation

Our foundational strength and conditioning services provide structured athletic preparation for athletes and physically active individuals looking to build a reliable physical baseline. The focus is on mastering movement mechanics and developing fundamental physical traits. By prioritizing proper technique and progressive load introduction, we help individuals establish a strong physical platform for long-term athletic success and safer training.

Core Training Elements

Fundamental Lift Mastery

Structured instruction in foundational movement patterns—squatting, hinging, pushing, pulling, and carrying—to ensure flawless mechanics before adding heavy resistance.

Base Strength Development

Progressive resistance training using bodyweight, dumbbells, and barbells to improve total-body muscular strength and structural tissue durability.

Aerobic & Anaerobic Conditioning

Guided cardiovascular training to improve lung capacity, work tolerance, and overall recovery times between intense physical efforts.

Core Stability & Balance
0e018ae1-2aee-445c-a4d4-e84e5b2ed528.webp

Targeted trunk and hip strengthening to improve spinal alignment, posture, and force transfer through the limbs.

Biomechanical Analysis And Footmaxx  Orthotics

Our comprehensive biomechanical services combine advanced motion technology with specialized movement screening to evaluate your body's structural foundation. This integrated clinical assessment pinpoints the root cause of movement inefficiencies, chronic pain, and performance inefficiencies. By analyzing your patterns from the ground up, we build an objective blueprint to optimize your movement and protect your joints.

Comprehensive services delivered

Clinical Gait & Biomechanical Analysis: This data-driven evaluation measures lower extremity kinetics and the physical force distribution between your feet and the ground during active movement.

Functional Movement Screening (FMS): While gait analysis focuses on your stride, the Functional Movement Screening evaluates total-body stability, mobility, and motor control through foundational movement patterns.

Footmaxx Custom Orthotics Services: When structural or alignment deficits are identified, we utilize Footmaxx custom orthotics to normalize your biomechanical foundation. Unlike generic, over-the-counter insoles, these are clinically engineered medical devices tailored to your exact foot structure and dynamic movement patterns.
